Conte also finished second in the 100 hurdles in 14.26 and qualified for the state meet in that event. Conte was the CIF-SS Division 3 champion in both events.

Emily Carr, Roosevelt: Carr cleared the bases with a long single to center field with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning as the Mustangs rallied to beat Los Alamitos 5-4 in the CIF Southern Section Division 1 championship game. Carr’s hit capped a four-run inning by Roosevelt, which trailed 4-1 entering the final inning. It was Carr’s third walk-off winner in eight games. She hit a two-run home run against Centennial on April 25, and her sacrifice fly that lifted the Mustangs to a 7-6 win over Garden Grove Pacifica in the Division 1 quarterfinals.

Jillian Albayati, Anaheim: Albayati became the first girl to pitch in a CIF-SS baseball final, allowing one run on eight hits in nine innings in a 2-1 loss in 11 innings to Estancia in the Division 6 championship. She also drove in the Colonists’ run with a RBI single in the fifth inning.

Madison Finnerty, Moorpark: Finnerty threw a perfect game in Moorpark’s 5-0 semifinal win over Heritage Christian, which advanced the Musketeers to the program’s first CIF final since 1996. The sophomore struck out 13 batters. Moorpark fell to Temple City 4-2 in the CIF Southern Section Division 4 championship game Saturday.

Ava Schaffel, Millikan: Schaffel had 10 strikeouts and gave up only three hits, one walk, two earned runs in Millikan’s 2-1 loss to Mission Viejo in the CIF Southern Section Division 2 championship game. After giving up two runs in the first inning, the sophomore ace pitched five scoreless innings, which kept the Rams in the game until the final out.
