Each week, publications from the Southern California News Group’s 11 properties (Orange County Register, L.A. Daily News, Press-Enterprise, San Gabriel Valley Tribune, Long Beach Press-Telegram, The Daily Breeze, San Bernardino Sun, Daily Bulletin, Redlands Daily Facts, Whittier Daily News and Pasadena-Star News) select the Athletes of the Week for their respective region.
Each athlete is then entered into the overall Southern California Athlete of the Week vote.
Click on the newspaper links below the athlete’s name to read about their performance from last week, and then vote for who you think deserves the top honor.
Readers are allowed to vote multiple times. Voting ends at midnight, but final totals aren’t always immediately reflected due to processing.

Miles Ortiz, Granada Hills Charter: Ortiz was instrumental in the Highlanders’ two-game sweep of Cleveland last week. He went 1 for 2 with two walks and a key double in the Highlanders’ 4-1 win. In the second game, he hit a home run in an 8-1 victory. Granada Hills was in first place in the West Valley League heading into this week’s two-game series against Birmingham.
Brady Ebel, Etiwanda: Ebel, a third baseman and pitcher, has made a significant impact during his freshman season. Last week, he hit a two-run home run to lift the Eagles to a 3-2 victory in the series opener against Damien. Ebel capped the week by tossing a four-hitter with eight strikeouts in just his second start on the mound. He also went 2 for 4 with three RBIs to lead a 3-1 win in the final game of the series. Earlier this season, the son of Dodgers third-base coach Dino Ebel threw a no-hitter against Ramona in his first start on the mound.
Corey Nunez, Torrance: Nunez helped the Tartars win all three of their games last week. He went 6 for 9 at the plate with three runs scored and three RBIs. On the mound, he pitched three scoreless inning and allowed two hits.
