SoFi Stadium among 2026 World Cup host venues

SoFi Stadium hosted the Super Bowl last season and will soon get the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The host cities for the 2026 tournament were announced Thursday afternoon, with the Inglewood stadium being chosen as one of the North American venues.

This is the first time the World Cup will be hosted by three countries, with Canada and Mexico joining with the United States. The last time the World Cup was hosted in the U.S. was in 1994. The Rose Bowl was the lone stadium in Southern California to host.

“The biggest show on Earth will come here soon to North America,” FIFA president Gianni Infantino said.

Mexico hosted the World Cup in 1970 and 1986. This will be Canada’s first time hosting the Men’s World Cup.

The 2026 World Cup will be the first 48-team tournament. That would be 16 groups of three instead of the normal eight groups of four.

More to come on this story.
