Reaction to the death of Vin Scully, the Dodgers’ longtime broadcaster

News of legendary broadcaster Vin Scully’s death sent shockwaves across Southern California and the sports world as the news first spread via the Dodgers’ social media accounts and an announcement during the broadcast of the Dodgers’ game against the Giants at Oracle Park in San Francisco.

Scully served as the voice of the Dodgers for 67 seasons. Over the years, he established a bond with Dodgers fans young and old and became an icon throughout Southern California and beyond. This happened to a lot of L.A. writers: I was listening to a Dodgers game and heard Vin Scully quote a line from a column of mine. A thrilling moment — not diminished at all by the fact Vin slightly changed the wording to improve my joke.

I also had the chance to meet Mr. Scully in 2000. It was such an honor. I was speechless and in awe. It’s not often you meet an idol and they live up to the standard. Vin did. Such an amazing man that had influence on thousands. He will be missed. pic.twitter.com/yLKXlV5DJh
