Pinstripe Bowl at Yankee Stadium gets a new title sponsor

It’s a change up for the Pinstripe Bowl at Yankee Stadium.

The Yankees’ annual college football bowl game unveiled a new title sponsor Tuesday in Bad Boy Mowers, announcing a multi-year partnership with the lawnmower tractor company.

The game will now be known as the Bad Boy Mowers Pinstripe Bowl.

“We’re a bowl on the rise, partnering up with a major brand on the rise in Bad Boy Mowers,” Mark Holtzman, the bowl game’s executive director, said Tuesday during a press conference at Yankee Stadium.

“Boy, does that Bad Boy Mowers Pinstripe Bowl name ring and sound good. I saw the shirt today with the mark on it for the first time. It was waiting for me when I got here. I was thrilled to put it on.”

Bad Boy Mowers replaces the hat company New Era, which had been the Pinstripe Bowl’s title sponsor since the inaugural game in 2010.

The mowing company also sponsors the annual “Battle 4 Atlantis” college basketball tournament in the Bahamas, and was previously the title partner of college football’s Gasparilla Bowl in Tampa.

Yankee Stadium transforms into a football field every December for the Pinstripe Bowl, which features a postseason matchup between schools from the Big Ten Conference and the ACC. Last year’s game saw Maryland beat Virginia Tech, 54-10.

Notre Dame, Penn State, Wisconsin, Syracuse and Boston College are among the high-profile schools that have played in the Pinstripe Bowl.

“We’ve had three sellouts, and we’ve had some good crowds for a lot of other games,” Holtzman said Tuesday.

“In the last four years, we’ve had three years of over 4 million total eyeballs watching our game, which is kind of the gold plated number as far as ESPN is concerned, which puts us in the top 25 percent of television ratings for all college bowls, which we’re very proud of.”

ESPN will televise the 2022 Pinstripe Bowl, while ESPN Radio will broadcast the game nationally and locally. This year’s game marks the 12th edition of the bowl game in the Bronx.

Fenway Park in Boston, Chase Field in Arizona and Petco Park in San Diego are the other MLB stadiums that host NCAA bowl games every year.
