Philly’s Best now has 21 locations in California, including Burbank, Chino, Long Beach, Ontario, Torrance and two in Oakland. But it all started out when Philly couple Bob Levey and Andrea DeSabatino Levey got married and moved here to open a sandwich shop in Fountain Valley. They started the business by skipping their honeymoon, scraping together all their wedding gift money and adding a $5,000 loan from her dad.

They transformed a taco shop in a strip mall into a little piece of home with Philly sports memorabilia and “imported” delicacies: Tastycakes, Wise chips and Frank’s sodas.

In honor of the chain’s 30th anniversary, they’ll be giving away free gift cards throughout the month of March and a grand prize of a year’s worth of free cheesesteaks. To enter, visit the brand’s Instagram page, @eatphillysbest. It’s one online contest for the entire chain, but gift cards will be honored at all locations.

Thirty gift cards will be awarded throughout the entire month of March. The grand prize contest will run from Friday, March 18 through Wednesday, March 23 at 11:59 p.m., a winner will be randomly selected on March 24. Philly’s Instagram followers will automatically be entered by tagging Philly’s Best in an Instagram story where they share their favorite way to order a cheesesteak or hoagie.

How can they give the good stuff away? It’s all a matter of gratitude, said Philly’s Best founder Bob Levey.

“I’m humbled as we celebrate 30 years of serving the most iconic Philly staple in all of its authentic glory to communities throughout California.”
