Orange Lutheran has hired a new boys water polo coach, and San Juan Hills is losing its veteran boys and girls water polo coach.

The Lancers announced Friday the hiring of former Huntington Beach girls coach Jacob Moore as their boys coach, replacing Nestor Nunez.

Moore coached the Huntington Beach girls the past three seasons, leading the Oilers to a pair of outright Wave League titles and a co-title this past season with Edison.

He also served as an assistant coach with the Huntington Beach boys.

“Boys water polo is what I have continuously wanted to coach (in high school) and I saw the opportunity with Orange Lutheran and knew it was my calling,” he said.

“My focus is on the boys and making sure they receive the best training in water polo while also becoming men of character and faith.”

In club water polo, Moore coaches with the 18-and-under girls at SET. He also serves as the youth girls Olympic Development Program coach for the Southern Pacific Zone.

At Orange Lutheran, he will be paired with the school’s new girls water polo coach and Olympian Brenda Villa.

Nunez led Orange Lutheran boys the past two seasons before receiving a suspension for multiple red cards while coaching the Lancers’ girls this past season. He didn’t return to the program.

In other water polo news, Ivan Buich has resigned as the boys and girls coach at San Juan Hills to become an assistant with the USC men’s program, he confirmed.

He led the Stallions’ boys to CIF-SS runner-up finishers in 2016 and 2019 and girls and boys to the Division 2 semifinals this past school year.

Buich also guided the boys and girls to a combined six league titles during his tenure.
