More Coastal fire evacuation orders lifted in Laguna Niguel

More evacuation orders sparked by the Coastal fire were lifted Sunday, May 15, allowing some Laguna Niguel residents to return home.

Mandatory evacuation orders remained for 30 homes on Coronado Pointe as of Sunday afternoon, according to the City of Laguna Niguel. Orders were lifted on homes on Vista Court, Via La Rosas and some homes on Vista Montemar, according to the city.

As of Sunday evening, the Coastal fire remained at 200 acres and fire crews had reached 80% containment on the blaze, up from 60% on Saturday evening, the Orange County Fire Authority said.

Portions of the Aliso Summit Trail bordering the evacuation zone remained closed Sunday, the city said.

The brush fire that destroyed 20 homes and damaged another 11 broke out on Wednesday, May 11.

The fire’s cause was under investigation.
