One of the top pitching talents in the Miami Marlins’ organization is set for the big leagues after the team promoted its No. 2 prospect, Max Meyer, on Thursday night.
Meyer was headed to Miami on Friday and is expected to make his Major League debut on Saturday against the Philadelphia Phillies (4:10 p.m. ET at loanDepot Park).
The Marlins’ twitter account posted a video Thursday showing Meyer being told the news by his coaches with the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp, Miami’s Triple-A affiliate. “I’m pumped. Let’s go,” he said after being told of his promotion.
Meyer, 23, was Miami’s first-round pick in the 2020 MLB draft with the No. 3 selection out of the University of Minnesota. Since then, he quickly rose through the Marlins’ farm system, impressing at every level.
In his first year with the organization, he earned the Double-A South Most Outstanding Pitcher and pitched in the All-Star Futures Game. That year, he had a 2.41 ERA and 113 strikeouts in 20 starts.
He was promoted to Jacksonville towards the end of the 2021 season and looked dominant once again. Although he has a 3.72 ERA and 3-4 record in 12 starts this season, he returned to form after an elbow injury and has a 1.96 ERA in his last four starts.
