Coronavirus: Orange County reported 521 new cases and 19 more deaths, March 11

The OC Health Care Agency reported 521 new cases of the coronavirus on Friday, March 11, increasing the cumulative total since tracking began in the county to 542,577.

There were 4,974 new cases reported in the last two-week period as of Friday.

There were 163 people in the hospital with coronavirus, including 28 who needed to be in intensive care units.

The county reported 19 more deaths on Friday, increasing the count of those who have died from the virus in Orange County to 6,740.

The data on deaths in the county is compiled from death certificates, or gathered through the course of case investigations, and can take weeks to process. The most recent death recorded was on March 2.

Of the 6,740 deaths reported from the virus, 1,298 were skilled nursing facility residents, 690 were in assisted living facilities, two were O.C. jail inmates, and 21 were listed as homeless.

It is estimated 528,786 people have recovered from the virus. The count of people who have recovered is based on the prior 28-day cumulative case count.
