As temperatures crept into the mid-’90s during the final day of the Coachella Valley Music & Art Festival in Indio‘s Weekend 1, some music fans hit the local hotel pools.
While the festival is held at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, there are numerous Coachella pre-parties at hotel pools happening throughout the area. Two of the largest are Coachella promoter Goldenvoice’s annual Day Club Palm Springs at the Hilton Palm Springs and Desert Gold, which takes over the Ace Hotel & Swim Club in Palm Springs. These events offer festival ticketholders a chance to cool off before the big event and give those that didn’t score tickets to the big show the chance to experience just a little of the action.

On Easter Sunday, music fans congregated around the pool during Desert Gold at the Ace Hotel, enjoying small bites and mezcal cocktails while Pangea Sound provided the soundtrack to a hot, yet relaxing, late brunch crowd. Patrons floated on avocado and sloth-shaped pool floats and hung out inside the HBO Max-branded activation themed after its series “The Flight Attendant” that included an air-conditioned lounge with snacks, fresh-pressed juice and massages.
Over in The Commune pool area of the hotel, The Do-Over had a variety of DJs performing and guests danced inside the covered open-air building, relaxed in the smaller pool area and sipped on cocktails to beat the heat.
Desert Gold continues during the second weekend of Coachella with events happening from noon-6 p.m. daily April 21-24. The lineup includes the record label Future Classic with a slew of artists inside the Amigo Room; the all-women, vinyl and genre collective Chulita Vinyl Club will present various artists poolside all weekend; L.A.-based DJ Esty on Saturday; and The Do-Over takes over The Commune with mystery DJ sets on Sunday. In Sheep’s Clothing will be inside the Amigo Room for the late-night crowd from 8 p.m.-1 a.m. These events are free and open to the general public with advance RSVP at acehotel.com.
Day Club Palm Springs was much more packed on Sunday as the crowd, most of which were sporting their Coachella festival wrist bands, were getting an early jump on the day with sets by Dom Dolla, John Summit and DJ Miane. It was a lively scene with guests wading into the water with cocktails, dancing and playing with beach balls.
Those that weren’t interested in taking a dip, hung out in the several on-site branded activations. There, they could pose for photos with oversized props, order Instagram-worthy drinks and fill their swag bags with festival essentials like sunglasses, lip balm, sunscreen.
The second weekend line-up includes performances by Duck Sauce, Hayden James, KiddKitt, Crush Club and Layla Benitez on April 22; Louis the Child, Kasbro, Elohim, A-Bo and Austin Millz April 23; Tchami, Vnssa + Friends, Lacati, Damaged Goods and DLMT April 24.
Day Club Palm Springs is a ticketed event and tickets much be purchased in advance. General admission tickets are $25-$45 and weekend passes are $70-$95 at dayclub.ps.
