We asked our photographers to pick their favorite photos from July 2022, and here are some of the moments they selected.
Football, fireworks, fun and some tasty waves – that’s what happened around OC in July.
The Football:Rams and Chargers were back in Orange County as they invited fans to their respective training camps in Irvine and Costa Mesa.
The Fireworks:Independence Day started early as hundreds of beach-goers in Seal Beach lined the OC side of the San Gabriel River on July 3rd to watch fireworks explode of Alamitos Bay in Long Beach. Early the next morning thousands of people gathered along Main Street in Huntington Beach to partake in the largest 4th of July celebration west of the Mississippi.
The Fun:Wild Rivers, a summertime favorite that kept visitors cool for more than 25 years before closing down in 2011, returned – this time at its new location in Irvine’s Great Park. The first visitors were able to enjoy many — but not all — of the attractions. Work is still being done on a number of rides.
Over in Costa Mesa, the OC Fair returned with its 23-day annual fair, this year themed – “Feel the Sunshine”. The fair folks expect to welcome more than 1 million people looking to binge on adrenaline on the midway, find the latest must-have in the products buildings and take in a concert.
Up in Cypress, dachshunds hit the track during the 25th running of The Wienerschnitzel Wiener Nationals. Eleven wiener dog races were held in between horse races at the Los Alamitos Race Course. The little dogs were all hoping to make it to the “Wiener’s Circle”.
The waves:Newport Beach’s Wedge went wild with its largest swell of the summer season when the same southern hemisphere swell that had caused a buzz in the surf world as it produced bombing waves in Tahiti and Hawaii, appeared in Southern California. Followed by world-class surfers hitting the waves during the U.S. Open of Surfing in Huntington Beach made for some epic pictures.
