Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Carlos Santana collapsed during a concert on July 5 in Michigan.
The first-tier guitar great and longtime Bay Area resident was performing at the famed Pine Knob Music Theatre in Clarkson, located just outside of Detroit, when he reportedly took ill and fell on stage during his band Santana’s headlining set.
The 74-year-old performer, known for such late ’60s/early ’70s classic rock favorites as “Oye Como Va” and “Evil Ways,” as well for the 1999 blockbuster “Supernatural,” was treated on stage by medical personal at roughly 10 p.m., according to NBC’s Detroit-based news affiliate WDIV-TV.
“They asked fans in attendance to pray for Santana, who is receiving serious medical attention,” according to the report.
A photo posted on the Twitter account for Roop Raj, the evening anchor/reporter at Fox2 Detroit, shows the scene at Pine Knob just minutes after Santana reportedly “passed out.”
“#BREAKING: Carlos Santana just passed out on stage at @PineKnobMusic. Medical personnel on stage. Crowd asked to pray for him because of a ‘serious medical’ issue. Pic via @LoriPinsonFOX2,” the tweet reads.

Raj would later tweet that “Several video posts show #CarlosSantana waving as he is being taken off stage. Good to see him alert enough to do that.”

No further information about the rock star’s medical condition was available, although his manager Michael Vrionis was quoted by the Detroit Free Press and other news outlets as saying Santana “was over-taken by heat exhaustion and dehydration.”
Santana was on the road with co-headliners Earth, Wind & Fire as part of the Miraculous Supernatural Tour.
