Boys lacrosse playoffs: Foothill, St. Margaret’s score big wins, set up semifinals showdown

Jackson Hines scored six goals Friday to lead Foothill to a 13-5 win over Agoura in the quarterfinals of the CIF-Southern Section Division 1 boys lacrosse playoffs at Agoura High.

Foothill (18-4) trailed 2-0 early, but went on a scoring run in the second quarter to take control of the game.

Gavin Griswold scored three goals for the Knights after having a team-high five in the team’s first-round game against Santa Margarita.

Luke Fox and Gavin Ahern each scored twice for the Knights.

Foothill will play St. Margaret’s in the semifinals Monday. The Knights narrowly beat St. Margaret’s 9-8 the last time the two teams met in the 2021 regular season.

In other boys lacrosse playoff games Friday:

St. Margaret’s 16, Los Alamitos 11: St. Margaret’s had a great offensive game in a high-scoring win over visiting Los Alamitos.

Owen Binder and John Culley each had three goals for St. Margaret’s (19-1).

Bryant University signee Matt Groeninger and Holy Cross signee Will Stahl each scored twice and so did Riley Chester.

Defenseman William Peffer had a career-high two goals with a long stick.

Division 2

JSerra 10, West Ranch 6: Jack Almy scored seven goals to lead JSerra to a road win over West Ranch in the second round of the Division 2 playoffs.

The sophomore has 11 goals through two playoff games for the Lions (14-8).

Goalie Jack Neiger had 11 saves.

JSerra will host Beckman on Monday in the quarterfinals.

Beckman 6, Great Oak 3: Beckman outlasted Great Oak of Temecula in a low-scoring game at Beckman High.

Max Texter paced the Patriots with three goals. Whittier College signee Tyler Hilmar had a goal and an assist for Beckman (18-1).

Senior goalie Ryan Rosselli had nine saves to lead the Beckman defense. Jake Galentine had a team-high four ground balls and two caused turnovers.

Aliso Niguel 14, Viewpoint 1: Aliso Niguel got a dominant second-round playoff win over Viewpoint at Aliso Niguel High.

Senior midfielder Mikey Laderer had seven goals and an assist to lead the Wolverines (17-2). Colin Barker added two goals and two assists.

Goalie CJ Besuzzi had six saves and Nathan Vandermerwe won 15 of 19 faceoff attempts.

Aliso Niguel will travel to play Temecula Valley in the quarterfinals Monday.

Division 3

Mission Viejo 15, Hart 3: Mission Viejo got its third consecutive blowout win to advance to the Division 3 semifinals.

The Diablos have outscored their first three playoff opponents 51-12. Mission Viejo (11-8) will host top-seeded Vista Murrieta in the semifinals Monday.

Ruben Lopez had five goals for the Diablos and Jake Higgins added four. Max Muller had two goals and a team-high seven ground balls. The Diablos won 17 of 22 faceoffs.

Crescenta Valley 6, Orange Lutheran 3: Orange Lutheran had its season come to an end at the hands of visiting Crescenta Valley.

The Lancers finished the regular season in last place in the Trinity League standings, but had a school-record 12 wins.

Orange Lutheran (12-9) was led by senior midfielders Trevor Hassenplug and Mason Mateus, long-stick midfielder Owen Waidley and faceoff specialist Max Fineman this season.
