5 people injured – 2 critically – in head-on crash in Santa Ana on Easter Sunday

A head-on-collision in Santa Ana sent five people to the hospital with traumatic injuries Sunday morning, April 17.

A total of three vehicles were involved in the crash at the intersection of Raitt Street and Monta Vista Avenue at 10:14 a.m., Santa Ana Police Commander Robert Rodriguez said.  Five patients were hospitalized with injuries ranging from “moderate to critical,” OCFA Capt. Sean Doran said.

Two remained in “critical” condition as of 12:30 p.m., Rodriguez said. Further information about the collision and the events leading up to it were not released by police.

Crews had to pull one person from the wreckage of a vehicle, Doran said. A white BMW sedan and a red Nissan SUV, both with smashed front-ends, sat in the intersection blocked off by yellow tape Sunday afternoon.

“I was on the first lane to turn left, and then I saw a car speeding behind me,” Roxanna Altamirano said in an interview recorded at the scene of the crash by Adan Olivares of OC Hawk. “But he tried to avoid me so he merged into my left side, which was opposite side, and on the oncoming traffic.”

The collision was under investigation.
