A former Minneapolis police officer was led from a courtroom in handcuffs Tuesday after a jury found him guilty of second-degree unintentional murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter in the death of George Floyd.

The verdicts against Derek Chauvin, which came a day after jurors were handed the high-profile case, led to an immediate and emotional aftermath in Minnesota and elsewhere. Across the country, small gatherings and celebrations popped up as people remembered Floyd’s life and reflected on what Chauvin’s convicton might mean for the future of policing and the ongoing fight against systemic racism.
