Restaurants and other food vendors ordered to close and allowed to reopen by Orange County health inspectors from Jan. 15 to Feb. 19:
Aliva’s El Ranchito, La Paz Road, Suite E, Laguna Niguel
- Closed: Feb. 17
- Reason: Cockroach infestation
- Reopened: Feb. 18
Panda Express, 806 Avenida Pico, Suite A, San Clemente
- Closed: Feb. 4
- Reason: Sewage overflow
- Reopened: Feb. 4
Only three restaurants have been shut down by health inspectors in Orange County so far this year, according to a Health Care Agency database. Typically, several food establishments are ordered closed each week due to various health hazards. Once identified issues are addressed, the businesses are allowed to reopen.
Christine Lane, director of the county Health Care Agency’s Environmental Health Division, said health inspectors are still responding to all routine complaints, but also have taken on pandemic-related work.
“During the recent regional stay-home order, it was difficult to maintain typical inspection processes because many food facilities had closed and or had limited operations,” Lane said.
“As disaster workers, inspectors have been tasked with other roles, and are focused on educating food facilities about the changing operational landscape in light of COVID-19,” she said.
Because of the reduced number, The Orange County Register has published this once-weekly list less frequently.
