Mission Viejo High’s quest to open its football season has encountered another hurdle.
The Diablos’ revised season-opening game against visiting Trabuco Hills on Friday, March 19 has been canceled because of injuries within the Mustangs’ program.
“We’ve been notified that the Trabuco Hills HS football program is unable to participate in the junior varsity and varsity football games versus MVHS this week due to the number of current injuries within the THHS football program,” Mission Viejo’s administration stated in a letter to football families.
The schools’ freshman game, scheduled for Thursday, March 18, remains on track, the letter added.
Trabuco Hills opened its season with a 55-7 loss against Edison last week.
Mission Viejo’s administration indicated that it is “securing” an alternate opponent to play Friday but no announcement has been made.
Last week, the Diablos’ season-opening game against La Habra was canceled because of a positive COVID-19 tests within their program.
