ANAHEIM — It was fast. It was frantic. It was fun. It was entertaining.

It looked like a Swedish national team scrimmage for a while on Monday night at Honda Center.

Rickard Rakell led the charge for the Tre Kronor and for the Ducks, scoring two goals and assisting on a third to spark them to a 6-5 overtime victory over countryman Adrian Kempe and the Kings. Rakell has sizzled during a six-game points streak, with five goals and seven assists.

Kempe scored three times for the Kings, after Coach Todd McLellan challenged him several games ago to produce more offense. Kempe scored once in each period Monday, including the goal that tied the score 5-5 with 2:32 remaining in regulation.

In overtime, Ducks rookie Trevor Zegras sent a pass from the right wing to Adam Henrique, who skated hard toward the left goal post. Henrique merely tapped the puck into the back of Cal Petersen’s net for the winning goal three minutes into the extra period.

“Such a great unselfish play by ‘Z,’” Ducks coach Dallas Eakins said. “There’s a young man looking for his first goal. Instead of wiring it, he makes the play to the backdoor to win the game. Good on Henrique to really drive his legs and be strong on his stick.”

Ducks defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk started the play with an alert pass to Zegras.

“Once it’s in his hands and he has some open space, I’m just trying to beat my guy up the ice to the back side to give Trevor an option,” Henrique said. “He’s so skilled he’s going to see that if it’s there or it’s not there and make the decision from there. I’m trying to give him an option.”

Zegras’ assist was the second of his budding career. He hasn’t scored a goal in his seven NHL games.

In addition to the goals by Henrique and Rakell, Shattenkirk, Ben Hutton and Jakob Silfverberg (shorthanded) also scored for the Ducks, who won their second game in a row after an 0-6-3 skid. Max Comtois had a career-high three assists, and Ryan Getzlaf recorded the 699th assist of his career.

“I have no explanation for that,” Rakell said of his hot streak. “I don’t think I’m doing anything different other than maybe I’m taking a little extra time to know where to go, to know where the net is and where to put the puck. That’s the only thing I can think of.

“I don’t know what it is specifically that’s clicking right now, but it feels good.”

The Ducks tried to protect a 5-3 lead to start the third without the services of forward Troy Terry (upper body) and defenseman Josh Manson (lower body), who were forced from the game. Manson returned to the lineup Friday after a 20-game absence because of a strained oblique.

The Ducks and Kings play the third of their eight-game season series on Wednesday at Honda Center, and it was uncertain whether Terry or Manson could play. Eakins didn’t have an immediate update on either injured player, but he hoped to know more Tuesday.

In addition to Kempe’s second career hat trick, Dustin Brown (power play) and Andreas Athanasiou scored for the Kings, who erased deficits of 1-0, 2-1 and 5-3 in forcing the game to overtime. Athanasiou’s goal 1:18 into the third period got their rally started.

Kempe then sent the game to OT by deflecting Drew Doughty’s perimeter shot.

“I’ve tried to be around the net more,” Kempe said after scoring his seventh, eighth and ninth goals of the season. “I’ve been more hungry. Before, I was sitting back and waiting. I wanted to get in on the forecheck more. I was taking the puck to the net.”

McLellan praised Kempe’s play, but he was upset with his team’s inattention to the details.

“Tonight we’re really disappointed by the mistakes,” McLellan said. “I just thought we were really, really sloppy. We had way too many individual mistakes, the turnovers off our tape and the lackadaisical play.”

Beauty pass from Trevor Zegras (@tzegras11). Lovely finish by @AdamHenrique.
