This year’s “In Memoriam” segment featured multiple performances to honor those who passed away in 2020. People on social media seemed to really like these moving performances.

The song no one expected to be performed at Grammys: Cardi B’s and Megan Thee Stallion’s viral hit “WAP.” While the lyrics were family-friendlyish, the performance got people talking on Twitter.

And now, for some historical and surprise wins. The first being H.E.R. winning song of the year for “I Can’t Breathe.” The song was inspired by the death of George Floyd and the protests of 2020 that followed, and its title echoing the last words of Eric Garner, who died in police custody in 2014.

The next is for Beyonce, or as her fans call her, “Queen Bey,” who made history with the most Grammy wins of any singer ever.

Despite it being 2021, events of 2020 have not been forgotten. Lil Baby’s performance of “Bigger Picture” offered messages about racial injustice and images echoing the Black Lives Matter protests last summer.

Last, but not least, the final performance of the night was held thousands of miles away by the most-talked-about seven-member group from South Korea, BTS. Their “Dynamite” performance lit up social media with hardcore fans and new fans sharing their thoughts.

Billie Eilish grabbed another Grammy on Sunday when “Everything I Wanted” won record of the year, the final award of the night.
