ANAHEIM — On the eve of the NHL’s trade deadline, the Ducks lost a 4-1 decision to the Colorado Avalanche on Sunday at Honda Center.

Not that the West Division-leading Avalanche needed any help, but the Ducks gave them some with a first-period giveaway that led to Andre Burakovsky’s goal that made it 1-0 only 7:15 into the game. A dubious officiating decision then led to a five-on-three for the Avalanche in the second period.

With the Ducks’ Nicolas Deslauriers already in the penalty box for a legitimate hooking penalty, teammate Max Jones was whistled for tripping, giving Colorado a two-man advantage that led to Gabriel Landeskog’s power-play goal that made it 2-0 at 6:35 of the second.

Jones gestured in disgust at the replay shown on the overhanging scoreboard. Deslauriers, seated next to him in the box, just shook his head at the sight of Colorado’s Nazem Kadri hitting the ice as if he had been hit by a Zamboni. Neither laughed after Landeskog made it 2-0, though.

Jamie Drysdale ended Jonas Johansson’s second consecutive shutout bid, scoring at 12:37 of the third period to cut the Ducks’ deficit to 3-1. Ryan Graves restored the Avalanche’s two-goal lead by firing a shot that ricocheted off first Troy Terry and then Ryan Getzlaf at 14:13.

Nathan MacKinnon sealed it with a goal that made it 4-1 at 16:54.
