The game was a back-and-forth battle, with the Colonists (3-1, 3-1) taking an early two-touchdown lead before the Rebels (2-2, 2-2) scored on four consecutive possessions to go ahead, 28-14.

Anaheim then scored the final three touchdowns and stopped the Rebels on a fourth-and-goal play from the 10 in the final seconds to hang on for the victory.

“The first and fourth (quarters) we were great,” Anaheim coach Lanny Booher said. “The second and third we kind of struggled. We lost our focus.”

The victory keeps the Colonists in second place heading into their final game of the season on Friday, April 16 against Santa Ana Valley.

Savana plays Magnolia on Thursday, April 15 in a game that will decide third place.

Western (4-0, 4-0) will finish first with a victory over Century on Friday.

Luna’s first touchdown was a 2-yard run that capped a 96-yard 12-play drive. He had eight carries and runs of 20 and 16 yards on the drive to help set up the score.

Luna’s next score was a 3-yard run that capped a 65-yard, five-play drive where he either rushed or caught a pass on every play.

The Rebels then stormed back, scoring on a 42-yard run from Antonio Negron, a 25-yard pass from Ivan Hernandez to Tommy Nguyen and runs of 6 and 3 yards by Hernandez.

Scoring runs of 9 and 13 yards by Luna and a 1-yard touchdown run by Fabian Gutierrez put the Colonists back in front by a touchdown with 5:55 remaining in the game.

Savanna started the ensuing drive on its 37 and drove to the Anaheim 8 with 1:08 left.

After two incomplete passes and a sack, the Rebels faced a fourth-and-goal from the 10 with 21 seconds on the clock. Sophomore linebacker Sotero Galeana then broke up a pass in the end zone to preserve the victory.
