Channel letters are one of the most iconic forms of commercial signage, featuring letter fonts routed into acrylic faces mounted to aluminum sides and backs. They may be illuminated or non-illuminated.

Returns, or sides, of letters are constructed using coil aluminum sheeting that has been painted in standard or custom shades. A computer-driven machine bends it into shape as necessary to complete its design.

Channel letters are highly adaptable signs, designed to meet any business’s signage needs and illuminated in multiple ways. Businesses often turn to them because of their versatility and durability – these signs come with many fonts, sizes, and colors available that will fit right in with any brand identity.

These boards are typically constructed out of aluminum due to its formability, corrosion resistance and weldability. Once complete they’re protected by either powder coat or anodized coatings to keep out environmental elements.

Backs of signs typically comprise router-cut aluminum in various thicknesses, while their sides, known as returns, are formed to match with their backs using computer-driven bending and shaping machines. A translucent acrylic or vinyl face holds in place by means of trim caps; front-lit or reverse lit signs may also feature front/back lighting (duel lighting) depending on their size and location; they’re often attached directly onto building walls as opposed to raceways.

Channel letters are an attractive 3D sign that can be custom-fabricated in various fonts and sizes to attract attention for your business, while adding visibility at nighttime via LED or neon illumination. They provide great ROI compared to more conventional signs!

These displays typically consist of acrylic faces routed to form letters, numbers or logos and attached to returns (sides) using trim cap made from top-grade aluminum. Lighting usually comprises LED modules which are highly energy efficient while providing brilliant illumination.

There are three illumination options for these signs: front lit, rear lit and duel lit (front/back). Front-lit channels use LEDs to illuminate their acrylic face while rear-lit channel letters use them on their backs, creating a “halo” effect and easily visible even in dim parking lots. Front lit signs tend to work best at drawing people in while both options provide ample illumination options when used together.

LED Lighting

Channel letter signs are an effective way of engaging customers around the clock. With illuminated channel letters being more noticeable and distinctive than traditional business signage, illuminated channel letters can make your brand stand out from competitors and capture customer interest at all times of the day. They come in various sizes that can be customized with logos or graphics to create an eye-catching visual effect that draws customers in.

Before purchasing your sign, carefully consider its location and expected weather conditions. Salt air can accelerate deterioration of colored elements on your sign; while extreme cold temperatures could cause it to crack or break altogether.

Channel letters typically feature aluminum cans covered with translucent acrylic, powered by LED lights that can either front-light or reverse-light to produce a halo effect, creating twinkle effect lighting effects. To ensure you sign is lit to its highest standards, consider bulbs with at least an 80 CRI rating and R9 value over 50 for best quality lighting results.

Mounting

Channel letters add an elegant and professional appearance to any business when installed correctly, drawing customers’ attention directly to your location and offering eye-catching displays that draw their eyes toward it. They’re also extremely durable – lasting through any weather condition with ease!

Installing channel letters requires adhering to rigorous electrical safety guidelines and using non-corrosive fasteners, and when using templates ensure it lays flat against the installation surface and spaces the letters evenly. Once installation is completed it’s important to test and verify that wiring works as it should before considering it complete.

Channel letter signs can either be backer mounted to the building, or flush mounted flush against it. A backer mount uses a backer panel to protect wires and power supplies while still being visible on the sign’s faceplate. Backer mounting works particularly well with halo-lit signs due to keeping hardware from blocking their glow; additionally, backer mounts tend to be less expensive than raceway mounts and help increase brand visibility at nighttime. This type of signage is an effective way of increasing brand exposure!
