Coronavirus: Orange County reported 1,923 new cases and 16 more deaths in past week, as of Sept. 15

The OC Health Care Agency reported 1,923 more cases of the coronavirus from Thursday, Sept. 8, to Thursday, Sept. 15, increasing the cumulative total since tracking began in the county to 664,361.

Staring the week of Sept. 12, the county started reporting case counts and testing data weekly on Thursdays.

There were 4,246 new cases reported in the last two-week period. The county is averaging at least 9.4 new cases a day per every 100,000 residents.

There were 150 people reported in Orange County hospitals with coronavirus on Thursday, including 21 who required intensive care.

The county also reported 16 more deaths, bringing the count of Orange County residents who have died from the virus to 7,405.

The data on deaths in the county is compiled from death certificates, or gathered through the course of case investigations, and can take weeks to process. The most recent death recorded was on Sept. 3.

Data posted each day is preliminary and subject to change, officials emphasize. More information may become available as individual case investigations are completed. The Orange County Health Care Agency dashboard can be found here.
