LOS ANGELES — The Dodgers have agreed to terms with infielder Max Muncy on a one-year contract extension for $13.5 million for the 2023 season with a club option for the 2024 season for $10 million with incentives.
Muncy, 31, is hitting .190 with 15 doubles, 16 home runs and 47 RBIs in 99 games this season, but he has heated up considerably of late. In August, he is batting .328 (19 for 58) with five doubles, seven homers, 15 RBIs and a 1.185 OPS. Last season, he slashed .249/.368/.527 with 36 homers and 94 RBIs, setting career-highs in homers, total bases (262) and extra-base hits (64) before an elbow injury on the last day of the regular season sidelined him for the playoffs.
The two-time All-Star has been with the Dodgers for five seasons, recording three seasons of 35 home runs or more. In his Dodgers career, he is a .236 hitter with 134 homers and 345 RBIs in 579 games.
He was originally drafted by the Oakland Athletics in the fifth round of the 2012 MLB draft out of Baylor University.
