Dan Albano ranks the top 10 quarterbacks in Orange County for the 2022 high school football season:

TOP 10 QUARTERBACKS

1. Malachi Nelson, Los Alamitos: The USC commit enters the fall as the No. 2-ranked senior passer in the nation by 247Sports, and he’s ready to soar past 100 career touchdown passes.

2. Elijah Brown, Mater Dei: The county’s top junior quarterback enters the season with a 17-0 record, plus two Trinity League titles, a CIF-SS Division 1 crown and CIF State championship on his resume as a starter.

3. Kadin Semonza, Mission Viejo: The Ball State-committed senior showed during the summer that he has accuracy and wide receivers to surpass his totals of 2,532 yards and 32 TDs last season.

4. Jaxon Potter, Santa Margarita: The 6-foot-4 senior can take another step forward this fall by improving his accuracy. This will not only boost the Eagles’ offense but also help him hold off touted sophomore transfer Bekkem Kritza.

5. David Rasor, Corona del Mar: The UC Davis-committed senior possesses the skills and supporting cast to throw for another 30-plus touchdowns.

6. Trey Kukuk, Capistrano Valley: The prolific dual-threat senior takes on the South Coast League this fall after producing 4,157 total yards last season.

7. Parker Awad, Edison: The steady senior is primed to extend the progress he made as a junior when he passed for 2,166 yards and 16 TDs.

8. Reyn Beal, Yorba Linda: Don’t forget about the reigning Crestview League co-MVP who passed for nearly 2,800 yards and 28 TDs as a junior for a team that went 10-1.

9. Michael Tollefson, San Juan Hills: Look for the county’s top sophomore QB to continue to improve and back up recent offers such as Georgia and Texas A & M.

10. Colton Joseph, Newport Harbor: There’s plenty of competition for this spot in the top 10 but his offseason progress and weapons are hard to ignore. Joseph led the Sailors to the title at the inaugural SoCo passing tournament and Coach Peter Lofthouse expects a breakout season.
