Aaron Donald, Rams finally get their Super Bowl LVI rings

Aaron Donald’s “ring me” celebration instantly became a memorable Super Bowl moment, but he waited six months before they actually put a ring on his finger.

There was no need for imagination on Thursday night when Donald and his Rams teammates pointed to their flashy championship jewelry during the team’s Super Bowl rings ceremony. The Rams captured their first Los Angeles era title in February after defeating the Cincinnati Bengals, 23-20, in Super Bowl LVI at SoFi Stadium.

Rams safety Jordan Fuller tweeted before the ceremony that he hoped for a Super Bowl ring that was “the most obnoxious thing in existence.” He probably wasn’t disappointed after the team unveiled a ring with a removable top that included a replica of their home stadium inside. The field was made with material that consisted of remnants of the actual turf at SoFi Stadium.

The lavish rings hold the most diamond carat weight in championship rings history, according to the Rams’ news release.

“To be able to not only win the Super Bowl, but also to do it in the house Mr. (Stan) Kroenke built, is really a dream come true,” said Tony Pastoors, the Rams’ vice president of football and business affairs. “We are grateful to Jason and his team for their creativity and passion to deliver a championship ring that reflects our team and their historic season, the one-of-a-kind stadium where it happened, and the city that inspired all of it.”

Celebrity jeweler Jason of Beverly Hills designed the Rams’ Super Bowl rings with input from many players, including Donald, Jalen Ramsey, Odell Beckham Jr. and Von Miller. The latter two aren’t on the Rams’ current roster, but their standout performances throughout the second half of the 2021 season and postseason run earned them plenty of say in the design of the bling. It also helps that Beckham and Miller have an eye for fashion.

Beckham, who remains a free agent, and Miller, who signed with the Buffalo Bills in free agency, attended the Rams’ private ceremony that was closed to media.

Donald’s memorable Super Bowl moment occurred after he delivered the game-saving quarterback hit on Joe Burrow on fourth down to end the Bengals’ last-minute rally. The future Hall of Famer took off his helmet, pointed to his left hand and shouted “ring me.”

Donald reenacted his ring celebration Thursday by pointing to the giant rock on his left hand and shouting his “ring me” catchphrase.

The Rams had many memorable moments throughout their Super Bowl run, from David Long’s interception return for a touchdown against Kyler Murray and the Arizona Cardinals in the wild-card round to Cooper Kupp’s 44-yard catch to set up Matt Gay’s game-winning field goal against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the divisional round to Donald’s passionate sideline speech to ignite the team’s rally against the San Francisco 49ers during the NFC championship game. Quarterback Matthew Stafford also had his moment after completing a no-look pass to Kupp in the Super Bowl.

Golden State Warriors star Steph Curry was inspired by Donald’s ring celebration and used it during Game 6 of the NBA Finals last month against the Boston Celtics. But Curry didn’t have to wait because he had three rings to point to before capturing his fourth.

The waited ended Thursday for Donald and many of his teammates to receive their first championship ring. The quest for a second one begins Saturday when the Rams report for training camp.
