Coronavirus: Orange County reported 3,114 new cases and six more deaths, June 17

The OC Health Care Agency reported 3,114 more cases of the coronavirus between Tuesday, June 14, and Friday, June 17, increasing the cumulative total since tracking began in the county to 589,234.

There were 14,148 new cases reported in the last two-week period as of Friday. The county is averaging about 31 new cases a day per every 100,000 residents.

County officials are now reporting updates to coronavirus-related case counts on Tuesdays and Fridays, following changes to reporting timelines at the state level.

There were 178 people reported in Orange County hospitals with coronavirus on Tuesday, including 23 who required intensive care.

The county reported six additional deaths on Friday, bringing the count of Orange County residents who have died from the virus to 7,082.

The data on deaths in the county is compiled from death certificates, or gathered through the course of case investigations, and can take weeks to process. The most recent death recorded was on June 12.

Of the 7,082 deaths reported from the virus, 1,349 were skilled nursing facility residents, 711 were in assisted living facilities, two were OC jail inmates, and 21 were listed as homeless.

It is estimated 558,849 people in the county have recovered from the virus. The count of people who have recovered is based on the prior 28-day cumulative case count.
