GIRLS ATHLETE OF THE WEEK VOTING

The overall winner will be announced on Friday, June 3.

Jose Ruedas, Chatsworth: Ruedas, a pitcher, threw a complete-game shutout with six strikeouts, allowed four hits and didn’t walk any batters in Chatsworth’s 2-0 victory over Birmingham Charter in the City Section Open Division final at Dodger Stadium Saturday afternoon. Ruedas was also 1 for 3 from the plate. The Chancellors earned their first City title since 2009 and 10th in program history.

Jason Plumb, Corona del Mar: Plumb won the long jump at the CIF State Track and Field Championships with a leap of 24 feet, 5¾ inches. “I definitely had that thought in the back of mind that I could do it,” Plumb said. “It was super cool how it all came together.” The mark is the second-best wind-aided long jump in Orange County history. The county wind-aided record is 24-8 ¾ by Danny Casupanan of Tustin 2002. The county wind-legal record is 24-7 set by JSerra’s Dante Pettis. Plumb will continue his long jumping career at Cal.

Delaney Crawford, Upland: Crawford was one of the nation’s top hurdlers last year, but his junior campaign ended early because of an injury. Crawford missed some time this season, as well, but he battled his way back and won the 300-meter hurdles title at the CIF State Championships meet in Clovis. His time of 37.11 seconds was the best in the state this season and 0.22 seconds faster then the next finisher. It was the fourth straight time an Upland athlete won the event at the state finals. Joseph Anderson won in 2017, while Caleb Lutalo-Roberson won in 2018 and 2019.

Rodrick Pleasant, Serra: Pleasant capped the high school track and field season by winning the 100 meters in 10.30 seconds and the 200 meters in 20.56 seconds at the CIF State Championships in Clovis on Saturday.

Camryn O’Bannon, St. John Bosco: O’Bannon won the state title in the triple jump with a jump of 47 feet, 6.75 inches at the CIF State Track and Field Championships in Clovis on Saturday. The state champion will compete in the long jump and triple jump at UCLA.
