Roughly 75 firefighters were battling a blaze at a large one-story commercial building in Los Alamitos, Tuesday morning, May 24, authorities said.
Orange County firefighters were called to the 10800 block of Kyle Street just past 5:30 a.m. and arrived to find heavy fire through the roof, OCFA Capt. Sean Doran said.
Firefighters initiated a defensive attack, staying outside the building while using truck ladders to pour heavy streams of water on the fire, Doran said.
Because of the fire and the water weight, the roof of the building collapsed, he said.
No injuries had been reported and it wasn’t immediately known if anyone was in the building when the fire started, Doran said.
Firefighters kept the fire from spreading to other nearby structures.
Firefighters were still working to put out flames as of 7:45 a.m., he said, while investigators were on scene waiting to get inside the building once it was safe to do so.
Long Beach firefighters were assisting, Doran said. Some units were being released as operations wind down, Doran said.
The cause and origin of the fire were not known. Information about the business was not immediately known.
