A man and a woman were arrested for their suspected involvement in the 2021 beating death of a homeless man in Anaheim, police announced Tuesday, May 17.
On Monday, May 16, Anaheim police arrested Daniel Salazar, 30, in the 100 block of North Lemon Street in Anaheim on suspicion of murder in the killing of 32-year-old Gilbert Daisaku Johnson, the Anaheim Police Department said in a news release. Later that day, police arrested a 20-year-old woman in the 300 block of West Center Street Promenade on suspicion of robbery, police said.
Salazar was being held on $1 million bail while the woman was held on $50,000 bail, police said. Both suspects were described as being homeless in Anaheim, authorities said.
Johnson had been found on the ground with head injuries around 3:45 a.m. on Nov. 15 in the 100 block of West Broadway by a passerby who then called police, the Police Department said. Johnson, a previous resident of Costa Mesa, was taken to a local hospital for treatment and remained there until he died from his injuries on Nov. 18, police said.
It wasn’t immediately clear what the motive in the killing was.
