SOFTBALL TOP 25

(Records through Sunday, May 1)

1. Villa Park (23-4): The Spartans return to No. 1 after rallying for a share of the Crestview League title and earning the No. 2 seed for the Division 1 playoffs. They play host to Vista Murrieta on Thursday.

2. Esperanza (18-11): The Aztecs, tri-champion of the Crestview League, open defense of their Division 1 title against Trinity League champion Mater Dei on Thursday.

3. Canyon (23-6): The Comanches missed securing an at-large berth for the Division 3 playoffs but earned respect by claiming a share of the Crestview League title and winning the Carew Classic.

4. Huntington Beach (21-7): The undefeated, Surf League champion plays host to Del Rio League runner-up La Serna in the first round Thursday.

5. Pacifica (24-4): The Empire League co-champion plays host to Southwestern League co-champion Great Oak in the first round of the Division 1 playoffs Thursday.

6. Los Alamitos (20-7): The Surf League runner-up opens the Division 1 playoffs at Sunkist League champion Grand Terrace on Thursday.

7. Mater Dei (17-9): The Trinity League co-champion has the speed and left-handed bats to put pressure on Esperanza on Thursday.

8. Orange Lutheran (19-8): The Lancers, who finished strong to earn a share of the Trinity League title, play at Riverside Poly in a Division 1 first-round game on Thursday.

9. Mission Viejo (21-5): The South Coast League champion earned the No. 2 seed in Division 2 and play host to at-large El Segundo in the first round of the Division 2 playoffs Thursday,

10. La Habra (18-7): The undefeated Freeway League champion plays host to San Dimas in the first round of the Division 2 playoffs Thursday.
