Each week, publications from the Southern California News Group’s 11 properties (Orange County Register, L.A. Daily News, Press-Enterprise, San Gabriel Valley Tribune, Long Beach Press-Telegram, The Daily Breeze, San Bernardino Sun, Daily Bulletin, Redlands Daily Facts, Whittier Daily News and Pasadena-Star News) select the Athletes of the Week for their respective region.
Each athlete is then entered into the overall Southern California Athlete of the Week vote.
Click on the newspaper links below the athlete’s name to read about their performance from last week, and then vote for who you think deserves the top honor.
Readers are allowed to vote multiple times. Voting ends at midnight, but final totals aren’t always immediately reflected due to processing.

Miles Hughes, Carson: Hughes helped the Colts pull off a two-game sweep of Narbonne to move into a first-place tie in the Marine League. He pitched a complete game to get the win and reached base three times in a 6-5 win. In the second game of the week, he had two hits and scored twice in a 4-3 win.
Cade Moran, Murrieta Mesa: Moran, who has signed with Michigan, was chosen the outstanding male field performer at the prestigious Arcadia Invitational after sweeping the throwing events. He won the shot put title with a mark of 66 feet, 10 inches, the best mark in the nation this season and third-best mark in Riverside County history. Moran also won the discus event with a toss of 198-4. At a Southwestern League meet against Murrieta Valley earlier in the week, Moran registered a discus toss of 199-8, the No. 1 mark in the state this season and second-best mark in Riverside County history.
Tony Ju, Santa Margarita: Ju was named swimmer of the meet at the Foothill Swim Games. He won the 200 freestyle in 1:40.01 and the 500 free in 4:35.16. His split time of 20.93 in the 200 free relay helped his team win with a time of 1:25.08. Ju was a key contributor to Santa Margarita’s CIF Southern Section Division 1 championship last season. “He’s a workout warrior,” Santa Margarita coach Ron Blanc said of Ju. “He usually gets faster as the distance gets longer.”
Rayshon Luke, St. John Bosco: Luke, whose nickname is “Speedy,” helped St. John Bosco set a new California record in the 4×200-meter relay and ran the 100 in 10.45 seconds to finish second at the Arcadia Invitational on Saturday, April 9. The senior, who signed to play football at the University of Arizona, was part of the Braves’ record-setting 4×200 relay run in 1:24.15, which broke a long-standing record held by Long Beach Poly. Luke also anchored Bosco’s 4×100 relay to a second-place finish in a time of 41.02, which is also the fastest time in that event for PT area teams.
