A woman trapped inside her room was killed Saturday during a house fire in Anaheim, authorities said.
When Anaheim fire crews arrived at the home around 12 p.m. on the 1300 block of Sandalwood Avenue, a man mistakenly told firefighters that everyone had evacuated the house and that his roommate was at work, Anaheim Police Sgt. Steve Peña said in an interview with an OnScene.TV videographer
However, as firefighters battled the blaze, Peña said they discovered the woman’s body inside the bedroom. Authorities said she was in her 20s, but have yet to release her identity.
Firefighters extinguished the house fire by 12:30 p.m.
Fire crews and police officers remained in the neighborhood for at least several hours after the blaze, closing off Sandalwood to traffic.
Two women could be seen embracing and crying near the home in footage from the scene.
Police said the death did not appear to be suspicious.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
