YORBA LINDA — Villa Park overwhelmed Yorba Linda with big plays Friday to win its sixth Crestview League football championship in seven years.
Three of the Spartans’ five touchdowns were on plays over 45 yards in the 35-21 win at Yorba Linda High.
Villa Park quarterback Nathan Kornely was the star of the game, completing 23 of 36 passes for 359 yards and two touchdowns.

His favorite target was Jackson Christie, who caught eight passes for 115 yards. Christie also ran for 68 yards and a touchdown.
The first half had the makings of a shootout with the score being tied at 21 at halftime. Kornely threw for 282 yards in the first half and Yorba Linda quarterback Reyn Beal threw for 211.
After Jack Marta forced and recovered a fumble for the Spartans (5-1, 3-0), Kornely threw a 15-yard touchdown pass to Alex Grywalski to give them an early 7-0 lead.
On the ensuing Villa Park possession, Ty Bonilla caught a pass and was tackled on top of a Mustangs defender. He got up and ran 79 yards for a touchdown to give the Spartans a 14-0 lead. Bonilla caught six passes for 130 yards.
Yorba Linda (5-1, 2-1) answered with an 80-yd touchdown pass from Beal to JJ Conrad to cut the lead to seven.
Zeus Alefosio rumbled for a 2-yard touchdown to put Villa Park’s lead back at 14.
Beal threw touchdown passes to Chase Jones and William Payne in the second quarter to tie the game at halftime. He threw a 49-yard screen pass to Seth Gonzalez to put the Mustangs in position for the touchdown pass to Jones.
Yorba Linda’s offense moved the ball consistently the entire game but could not reach the end zone in the second half. Beal completed 17 of 28 passes for 346 yards and three touchdowns. Jones caught seven passes for a team-high 120 yards.
Ethan Pocci ran for 124 yards on 17 carries for the Mustangs. Yorba Linda lost 42 yards on errant snaps and sacks which hurt its field position. Arthur Orta and Alefosio had sacks for VIlla Park.
Alefosio and Christie each broke touchdown runs of 51 and 47 yards, respectively, in the fourth quarter to seal the victory for Villa Park.
Alefosio, who has scholarship offers from Colorado and New Mexico, had 75 yards on just seven carries with two touchdowns.
