A magnitude-4.0 earthquake hit the Hollywood Park area of Inglewood — the location of the new SoFi Stadium — at 4:44 a.m. Monday and was felt across Southern California, shaking many residents awake with a sharp jolt.
The US Geological Survey said the quake was 1.2 miles east-northeast of Lennox, placing it in the city of Inglewood on the southern edge of the Hollywood Park property that houses SoFi Stadium.
The quake’s depth was listed at 12.4 miles.
There were no reports of damage, the Los Angeles County Fire Department told CBS2.
The Inglewood quake was the biggest of a number of shakers to hit the area early Monday.
A magnitude-3.3 quake hit the same area at 37 seconds after 4:15 a.m. And a magnitude-2.5 quake hit 0.6 miles north of Lennox — also in Inglewood but west of the other two quakes — 59 seconds after 4:15 a.m., according to USGS data.

Earthquake expert Dr. Lucy Jones, Caltech researcher and founder of the The Dr. Lucy Jones Center for Science & Society, described the early-morning quake as “very deep,” on Twitter, saying, “Movement was thrust, probably not on any mapped fault.”
Residents reported feeling the 4.0 quake across Southern California, as far north as Palmdale, as far east as Riverside and as far south as San Clemente. There were a few reports from residents who say they felt the quake in the San Diego area, according to the USGS “Did You Feel It” map.
The USGS recorded a number of smaller quakes in the area, including:

- 2.3 at 5:27:47 a.m.
- 1.2 at 5:27:40 a.m.
- 1.8 at 5:26:43 a.m.
- 1.4 at 5:26:03 a.m.
- 1.4 at 5:24 a.m.
- 1.6 at 5:21 a.m.
- 1.5 at 5:13 a.m.
- 1.8 at 5:12 a.m.
- 1.7 at 5:11 a.m.
- 1.4 at 5:10 a.m.
- 1.9 at 5:09 a.m.
- 1.9 at 5:08 a.m.
- 1.7 at 5:06:35 a.m.
