Grieving husband says wife slain in Orange shooting wanted ‘perfection’ for their 2 young sons

Jenevieve Arlene Raygoza, one of four people killed in a shooting at a business complex in Orange last Wednesday, cherished holidays with her two boys

This Easter Sunday, her husband, Armando Raygoza said, “She would have gotten the kids together and organized a little Easter egg hunt. She would have coordinated everything. She was so detail-oriented. Everything that she did was with perfection — she wanted everything to look picture perfect.”

Now her family, including her sons, age 8 and 4, are left picking up the pieces after the violent attack in the offices on Lincoln Avenue where her father, Luis Tovar, ran his business building and selling mobile homes.

Tovar, 50, was also killed, along with two others: Leticia Solis Guzman, 58, and Matthew Farias, 9. Injured and recovering in a hospital is Farias’ mother, Blanca Ismeralda Tamayo. Family members on Sunday said Tamayo was in critical condition.

“She’s always been a strong woman,” Raygoza said. “She’s fighting for her life.”

A crowdfunding campaign to help raise money for family members’ medical expenses was set up on GoFundMe. They raised more than $43,000 as of Sunday afternoon.

Raygoza said he’s received a massive outpouring of support since the shooting, and felt like the “whole world has reached out at this point.”

Both Jenevieve, who also spelled her name with a “G,” and Armando Raygoza worked at Unified Homes, the company where the shooting happened. She was a transaction manager; he is a construction project manager.

They were married for six years, seven in June, Raygoza said. The couple met at Fullerton College. Raygoza recounted first seeing his wife in their calculus class.

“She was the most beautiful girl in that class,” he said. “We started just hanging out for homework. We would meet up almost every other day.”

Raygoza described his wife as humble and delighting in the little things.

“I always tried to get her expensive gifts, but she would never want anything like that,” he said. “She loved Target.”

Why the shooter would have attacked the business and Tovar’s family was still unknown. Alberto Raygoza, Jenevieve’s brother-in-law, said the family was focused on mourning their lost loved ones.

“All we can say is that we wish no one else ever has to experience this,” he said. “We don’t wish this on anybody.”

Detectives with the Orange Police Department said the suspect had business and personal relationships with the victims. But officials have not detailed a motive.

The shooting unfolded quickly on the grounds of the office building at 202 E. Lincoln Boulevard on March 31 at around 5:30 p.m. Within minutes, all four victims were dead, and the suspect and Tamayo were wounded.

Police who responded shot Gonzalez in the head with a rifle, then used bolt cutters to break through bike cables fastened on the front and back gates to the building’s central plaza. The shooter had a handgun and a backpack full of ammunition and handcuffs, authorities said.

Jenevieve Raygoza’s body was discovered in one of the offices.

His wife was caring, and looked for the best in people, Armando Raygoza said.

“If she would have met you, she would have loved you,” he said, sobbing. “She would have loved you.

“She would have seen all the good in you. She was really loving. I just really wish so many people could have known her.”
