Dodgers right-hander Tony Gonsolin has been placed on the Injured List with shoulder inflammation.
Gonsolin pitched 3 2/3 innings in the first Freeway Series game against the Angels on March 28 but had not pitched since the season started. But Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Gonsolin had been bothered by the shoulder discomfort for “a few days” before the move Sunday.
“It’s something that’s kind of been lingering for the last few days,” Roberts said. “He went out there today and played catch, didn’t feel great. So I think it’s really being cautious with Tony.”
IL moves at the start of the season can be backdated so Gonsolin will be available next Monday but Roberts said there was no specific timeline for Gonsolin to return.
“We’ll see how he progresses,” he said.
In his place, the Dodgers moved right-hander Dennis Santana from the taxi squad to the active roster. Santana pitched 8 1/3 innings during the Cactus League schedule this spring with a 4.32 ERA and 10 strikeouts.
