Clippers star Kawhi Leonard sidelined with foot soreness

Kawhi Leonard was scratched with right foot soreness Thursday ahead of the Clippers’ second game in two nights against the San Antonio Spurs.

The former Spurs star led the Clippers to a 134-101 victory on Wednesday, when he finished with 25 points on 9-of-11 shooting and had seven rebounds, three assists and five steals in a dominant effort.

Clippers coach Tyronn Lue said the issue with Leonard’s foot arose Thursday: “Something just came up, actually. So, we just want to be cautious and make sure we’re making the right decision.”

Lue inserted Terance Mann into the starting lineup in place of Leonard.

In addition to Leonard, the Clippers prepared to take the court Thursday without Lou Williams (whom they’d agreed to trade to the Atlanta Hawks for Rajon Rondo), Marcus Morris Sr. (right calf contusion), as well as Patrick Beverley (sore right knee) and Serge Ibaka (lower back tightness), who both remained in L.A. nursing their injuries.

Starting forward Marcus Morris Sr. also was out with a right calf contusion. Patrick Patterson started in his place.

Thursday’s game was the ninth Leonard has missed this season. The Clippers are 4-4 this year without the five-time All-Star, who is averaging 25.9 points while shooting 51.6% from the field, in addition to logging 6.3 rebounds and a career-high 4.9 assists per game.
