Standing in front of a display honoring those in Orange County who have died from the coronavirus, Bishop Kevin Vann blessed more than 4,600 handmade felt roses representing the lives lost.
The individual pieces make up the Rose River Memorial, which will be on display at the Christ Cathedral in Garden Grove through June 30. It was first displayed at the Orange County Museum of Art.
The roses blessed Tuesday, March 23, were made by members of the community with the creative guidance of Los Angeles artist Marcos Lutyens. The OC Autism Foundation is sponsoring the display at the Small Gallery near the cathedral’s Arboretum. It will eventually travel to be part of a larger display planned in Washington, D.C., in 2022.
