Santa Ana shooting suspect nabbed in Mexico

A man suspected of shooting and wounding a girl and a man in Santa Ana earlier this year was arrested in Tijuana, Mexico, police said.

Jesus Angel Lopez, 27, was arrested on Wednesday, March 3, in a joint effort between the California Department of Justice and Mexican law enforcement, Santa Ana police said.

On Jan. 16, officers responded to a shooting on the 900 block of West Bishop Street in Santa Ana and found a 13-year-old girl and a man with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds to their lower bodies.

The victims and witnesses said the two were shot by a man driving a white tow truck. Officers found the truck in a nearby neighborhood, police said.

An investigation identifed the suspect as Lopez, who had fled the country, said police, adding he is a gang member with prior firearm-related convictions.
