Coronavirus tracker: California reported 4,959 new cases, 296 new deaths and 107 fewer patients as of Monday

The end-of-day totals from California public health websites for Monday, March 1, registered 4,959 new cases of the coronavirus, bringing the total number of cases there have been in the state to 3,549,531.

The 14-day total of new cases, 5,870, is down 86.1% from the Jan. 1 high of 42,268.

There were 296 new deaths reported Monday, for a total of 52,499 people in California who have died from the virus.

Hospitalizations also continue to decline. There were 5,302 hospitalizations of people with coronavirus-related infections reported on Monday. That’s a 76.8% drop since the Jan. 1 high of 22,853 people who needed hospital care.
